Obsessed.

Why are we so obsessed with ourselves?

We go to seminars and receive counseling. We go the the dentist and orthodontist to get a pearly white smile filled with straight teeth. We get facials, go tanning and  get our hair dyed to follow the hottest trends. We spend hours in a gym and take supplements or pills when we are not happy with the reflection staring back at us in the mirror.

Ultimately, we have convinced ourselves that if we try hard enough, we can perfect our selves.

We wear ourselves out trying to reach the humanly impossible standards we set only to find out that all our efforts bring are frustration and exhaustion.

Jesus came to bring us rest.

He came so we didn't have to tear ourselves apart in the process of striving to be perfect. He came so we could stop focusing on us, and start focusing on Him. Jesus is the perfect picture of righteousness that we could not, and will not be.

All we have to do is stop looking at ourselves and start looking to Jesus.

We will never be flawless in our looks, actions behaviors or choices. We will always come across a time where our temper burns peace, revenge over takes forgiveness and we put ourselves far before others.

But you know what? Thats okay.

Jesus didn't come so you could be perfect. He didn't die on the cross for nothing, He died for your sins and he died for my sins.

He came because he loves you. He desires for you to have a deep and intimate relationship with him. And believe it or not, that relationship doesn't come with the burden of being sinless.

The only requirement is that we love Him. Thats all Jesus wants.

You could do amazing things for Jesus. You could travel the world saving lives, taking care of the homeless, the poor and the orphans. Or you could lead a plain-jane life in a small one bedroom home only leaving the house to go to work.

But Jesus could never love you anymore than he already does, and will never love you any less.

So tell me why we obsess over perfecting our lives to the tiniest detail? We have convinced ourselves that our value comes through our actions, our looks, and our possessions. Unfortunately, that is the society that we live in today. Its all "me" centered. But sooner or later our trail of failed efforts will catch up with us leaving us disappointed, and hopeless.

You are worth more than you could ever imagine through the love, grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. How differently we would live our lives if we embraced this!

He doesn't love you for your actions, he does not put standards on his love that you have to be sinless. His love is dependant on one thing- that you love him, and believe that he died for you, me and all of humanity.

If God had one thing to say to you, it wouldn't be words to guilt you, or express his disappointment with your life. He would tell you how much he loves you, how much value you have through his son Jesus Christ.

Stop living like your value comes from perfecting all aspects of your life. How great the World would be if we could more strongly grasp the love of Christ and live that out every day.

Don't obsess over you. Obsess over Jesus.
