Beauty
We are constantly blinded to true beauty. We are blinded to the light, the good and what is real. We fall into darkness, feel alone, and feel that we can not measure up to what this world tells us we need to be. And we become scared. Scared that we wont fit in, or be accepted into this world.
The true and valuable things in life are covered up by a society where outer beauty is more important than the things within, and this just seems to scratch the surface of within. But what we never ask ourselves, is why we would want to be accepted into this cold and dark place we call home.
When in reality, beauty is so much more.
Beauty is the freckles that someone wears across their cheeks, or the dimples unevenly placed when they smile. Its the the sun that peeks through the cracks in our windows every morning, and the people all around us that we don't seem take the time to get to know. And we take all these things for granted.
We have eyes, but we chose not to see. We don't focus on the small things, and the beauty within them.
We are fed by our society that we gain happiness through “Things”. And our concentration becomes skewed to just this one idea: materialism. Just as we begin to feel content about ourselves, that girl with glowing skin, silky hair and beautiful clothes walks by, and suddenly our confidence is shattered. We are continuously told through commercials and magazines and ads, that if we have materialistic things, we will be happy. But come to understand that even the richest man in the world does not find satisfaction in all of his “stuff”. Because its just that. Stuff. Why do we concentrate on these things when they only allow us to portray a look, and lack substance?
We put an unrealistic pressure on ourselves to be something we're not, and be accepted by those we don't even like. But happiness does not come from empty relationships. And in the end we are running around in circles, exhausted, and less satisfied then the day before.
I know what its like to not be happy, to fake a smile and act like everything is okay when in reality all you want to do is break down and hide under your covers for days. And for some reason, we all try to act like we have it all together. So why is this world so fake? And covered under a shield of lies? Why do we judge each other, and why are mean and gossip as if our words don't hurt?
Life is not to fulfil desire, but to eliminate it. We are convinced of the things we have been told; that these “wants” are essential. The perfect home, grades, college, car, clothes, friends or the perfect boyfriend or girlfriend.
But we don't need those things to be happy. We need to realize the most important things is not stuff, or the clutter that seems to fill our lives. We are greater than the brand name we wear on our clothes. And more valuable than our cars and homes. We are more meaningful than the money that piles in the banks.
Life is something that should be celebrated through every hardship, every breath, every joy, and loss. Life is something we cannot take back. Let us not be continuously bound to a dark and clouded society. We need to break free from the norms that so often seem to define us. You and I, are worth so much more, and this is why we have true beauty.
